Formed in the summer of 2002, the five members came together through a love of country music and a long-held, burning desire to write and play together. Someone said that their sound is ‘unapologetic country’, but if you’re expecting Nashville-pop, forget it. Austin’s where they’re at; Bakersfield’s where they’re from; Shreveport, and the ghosts of the Saturday night Hayride, bawling and hollering all around, is what they take along the road.
They’ve played with Asleep at the Wheel, Dwight Yoakam, Danni Leigh, Marty Stuart, Bobby Bare and Chely Wright. They’ve formed allegiances with greatly respected Austin artists such as Ricky Broussard, Sunny Sweeney and Brennen Leigh. They’ve recorded with enigmatic Norwegian singer/songwriters Benedicte Braenden. And Monika Nordli. Hey, who doesn’t drop a name or two these days
Their first release, Stars a’ Fallin’ (2004), was recorded in a friend’s 8 track studio – “Just a bunch of songs we wrote in the early days. We loved them then and still play them from time to time. Gary, the guy who owned the studio, is a big old crazy genius…”
The second album, The Picture (2006), caught a fair amount of attention, winning“Album of the Year” in the UK Country Music Radio Awards.
The third album, Suit of Lights, is scheduled for release in March 2010. …“It’s beehives,” says Danny, “and coffee…” And maybe he’s right. You’ve gotta imagine Merle’s on the jukebox and the windows are open and the call home that maybe one day you’re gonna make is still stuck in your head. It’s love for no good reason; it’s the look in the eyes of the old-time waitress, like fading rhinestones and tragic purple skies. It’s for daddies and granddaddies long gone. It’s whisky and mezcal and the customary comforts of the night. It’s the future ebbing away and memory alone. It’s so-long, adios, farewell, adieu to lost friends.
